METRO's Townsen Park & Ride Goes Solar
METRO's Townsen Park & Ride, located along I-69 south of Kingwood, is now sporting new solar panel canopies. These innovative additions not only provide shade for vehicles, enhancing the commuter experience, but also help power the facility itself.
This milestone project signifies METRO's steadfast commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. By harnessing solar power, METRO is actively working towards its ambitious climate action plan, to help deliver on the U.S. Government's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030.
In addition to the improvements at Townsen Park & Ride, METRO is also implementing a solar panel and energy storage project at its West Bus Operating Facility. It includes an energy storage system, which will support the charging of METRO's growing fleet of electric buses and provide backup power in the case of an outage.
New solar panels not only shade vehicles, enhancing the commuter experience, but they also help power the Park & Ride facility itself.
The installation of solar panels and energy storage initiatives exemplifies METRO's proactive approach to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
As METRO continues to prioritize green initiatives, projects like these pave the way for a more eco-friendly and resilient transit system for the entire community.
Stay connected with METRO for further updates on our sustainability initiatives as we work to create a greener future for transportation.
